Im thinking about quitting the game, if I do, should I sell all my shit and donate to people who still care to play? Or should I just leave it as-is on the off chance I come back to ff eventually?
Just idle thoughts...

Just idle thoughts... -t Hang onto it all, just in case. You put two years + into this game. 2 years + of your life into this online community. Helping others, taking the time to care and get to know them. Once you give it all away or sell it off, it is hard to get back to where you were. I doubt there will be a LS bank around to help you out the way we did others who quit and returned. Just my 2 gils.

I gave my gil to a sackholder to use for whatever to help the LS. All my items i kept on my char and left it in 1 piece for the chance i ever did return.
I kind of think of it like the pharo of egypt when they died they took everything with them into the tomb for their "after-life".
Also i couldn't think of my mithra sitting all alone in a dark and cold mog house with a horny moogle unprotected. ;D

Well, from my experience with quiting....completely rebuilding a toon blows. When you give away gears etc and then decide to come back cause you miss the game restarting from square 1 is not fun, take my word for it. My advice is to you is keep the items/gears and your toon alive on the off chance you want to return as for gil do with it as you see fit. When I left for the first time i donated my sizable sum gils to several good Friends who didn't have the chances I had in game to profit.
If you're serious about quiting and know theres no chance of return give your toon to a Friend or liquidate and do the same just don't ebay him to become a RMT.
Just my 2 gil

u have a lovely shell man, nice members who actually help eachother out +1 Temp, I'd hate to see you go, but sometimes you just gotta do what you gotta do. If it's something you need to make a clean break from, get rid of everything-- it's like keeping a pack of smokes around the house if you're trying to quit. However, if you just need a break, maybe want to try a trial separation, then keep what can't be traded/sold, and maybe loan out some of your items to ls to hold on to you and utilize until you either decide to break it off for good or come back. Just make sure you really want option one before you take it, because the road back, from what I gather, is a long and arduous one which might just leave you more disillusioned than before.

the game has been out 3 years in the US just about...if you dont get the same out of playin as u did b4 then you should move, use the energy you'd use on the game on something else....all good things come and good, and good things never last forever

-sighs- Seems like everyone that I consiter friends ends up leaving or neer being on to hang out anymore... Evoker gave me all of his stuff to sell when he left and now he is back Im helping him make a come back by helping him farm and loaning him gil that I have. We have gotten alot of things back but there are still loads of items that need to be gotten back still.
I wish you wouldn't even consiter about leaving because it makes the already uneasy thoughts about the shell even more uneasy. I understand needing a break and all I took it a few months ago but came back. Seems like the people I call family in this shell are all up and leaving.
Temp I respect you as a brother even though we don't hang out alot outside events. These are just my feelings I thought I would share we you and everyone else that might be thinking of quiting. I will always consiter you my friend no matter what you choose to do just I would like to see you stay.

To those saying not to quit: The unhappy but true fact is that our linkshell is dying. Unless something drastic happens, very soon we will not have the members to do dynamis/sky/sea/etc. Grinding out the xp for merits or to level yet another job to 75 doesnt hold the appeal to me that it does for some. I find enjoyment in hanging out with my friends and trying to kill big nasty shit. If we stop doing that due to lack of members, well not only will I get bored, but I wont have the friends logging in to even chat with...
Ive given myself 1 month to decide for sure. If things continue to go downwards for the next month, Im cancelling my content ID's at the end of january. I <3 my friends and family here, but if enough of the family moves on, as many are, then its time for me to move on too.

We've talked in game, but I fully understand where you're coming from Tempus... and that's why I'll admit to being the one black sheep that voted for option number one.
That doesn't mean I want you to quit, by any stretch of the imagination... you're one of the coolest people I've met in this game. But I do understand why you chose to remain in the game as long as you did... and if you feel that it's your time, I respect you and think you should try to be as honest with yourself as possible. Unfortunately, it's not always as simple as making a decision to just throw everything away and leave it behind. Like Markus said... it's also the time that you've put into your character... the time that you've spent with friends. It's the time that's meaningful, not the character... yet, the time you spent is intangible, and the character you have to show for it is the only real manifestation you have.
So in the end, it boils down to a simple choice, and a difficult decision: does deleting your character equate to throwing away all the time that you had in this game, or do you feel like you're taking all of your experiences with you, and deleting your account is a meaningless action that simply seals the deal?

If you are quitting because you want to stop playing, then delete it all. If you are quitting because you aren't having fun, then just deactivate with everything still there.
Who knows? Maybe EE will flourish and grow. Maybe all your friends will reconvene down the road in a different linkshell, and you can find the same fun you used to have.
I'm going to list an option that's going to make some people hate me, but it's there. Move on to a new shell. Move on to an HNM where you don't have to be in charge, where you get to fight all the big stuff. Yes, you're leaving friends behind, but...you're going to do that anyway by quitting, right? Besides, while nobody could replace the people I met in EO, I was also a member of another LS before that. There were great people in that LS too. I'm sure whatever LS you'd go to, you'd find your share of jerks, and you'd find your share of people you'd become friends with.
I know, you'll likely say that this isn't even an option for you. But, it should be, if you still want to play ffxi and your only other choice is to quit.
(P.S. Damn you, I had to create a new account to put my 2 cents in. I had resisted for so long)

Ive had several people mention the third option tarick. It's not for me, if Im going to start over with that many new possible friends, might as well go to WoW...
The options are:
1) a miracle occurs and EE flourishes or shows distinct signs of it, within a month 2) Cancel content ID's but do not delete character, leave all gear as-is 3) Give away all gear and gil, cancel content ID's but do not delete character. 4) Have enough current EE friends all try to go to the same other LS.
At no point do I plan on dropping r/ex gear and deleting the character.
Thanks all for responses btw. And /point /laugh tarick for being "forced" to make a new login.
