Haven't heard much on the subject in awhile, though I don't follow it too closely (as I have no intention of buying a PS3 until, perhaps, years later when I can get it for fairly cheap and start playing "Rock Band").
I'd probably wait until next month to be sure (people usually say it's safe to get such things 6 months after the initial release), but that's just me and I have nothing really to base that on.
That probably wasn't much help at all. Anyone else wanna take a crack at it?

I've one of the first releases, no problems with them at all. Only problems I've seen / heard / read about is the limited amount of games available for them.
As far as quality, I know about a dozen people that own them, first release, with no problems.
