I'm holding off on any next gen systems until they have a decent lineup. The only must-plays for me right now are Resistance: Fall of Man for PS3 and Legend of Zelda: The Twilight Princess for Wii. I'll probably pick up a Wii way before a PS3, simply because the pricepoint is easier to swallow and there are a lot of excellent-looking first party games coming out (Smash Bros Brawl, anyone?)

I personally never understood the "waiting until they have a decent lineup" remark. We know that some time or another, they will have a decent lineup so whats the purpose of waiting if they have games that you like now? It could be just me...but if they have a game i want..I'll buy the console and enjoy from that time on rather then waiting to play games that are now old.
I bought my xbox for FFXI only. That was a long time ago....now they have COD3, GOW, Rainbow 6 that I'm playing right now. I knew eventually these types of games would come out so I enjoyed FFXI on it up until there were other games I could enjoy on it.

There are two reasons I'd rather wait.
First, I'd rather see the full game lineup before deciding which console to buy first (or even at all,) because doing so allows me to make an informed decision. There's nothing worse than blowing hundreds of bucks on a system only to have it sit on your shelf like a paperweight. A personal example of how that happened to me was the PSP launch. I bought it at launch, and it's sat on my shelf for a year. I don't even use it as an MP3 player anymore because it's impractical. Only just now have they begun to come up with any decent games, but due to the lack of good software on the system, I used it primarily for homebrew apps and emulation. If I upgrade my firmware now, it breaks those functions permanantly. Not really worth it, either way, for me.
The other reason is because the hysteria around the system tends to die down a little, and it's a lot easier to pricehunt for a better deal. You don't have to buy those absurdly stupid bundle packs in order to net a system (I HATE game companies that do that, the only way to order a system is to buy it with an additional $400 in unwanted software and hardware; FUCK that), systems become available used (though usually in short quanitity,) and the companies eventually lower the opening pricepoints in order to remain competative. Come on. The PS3 isn't going to stay $500 and $600 over the next two years. It's already a loss leader, they're not making money off the console sales. The reason they decided on a high pricepoint is because they know that fenzied consumers will pay the opening pricepoint during the first stage of the console's launch. It also helps cut their losses, by reducing the loss per-unit in sales. Their entire business strategy revolves around making sure that every household in America has a PS3 in their living room, and the best way to do that is to make them think that they're getting an incredible bargain by lowering the price to match their competitors (not as low as the Wii, certainly, but it may drop as low as $300 near the end of its lifespan.)
I'm a budget gamer. I'm a college student with a limited income; so the best way for me to get the most of my gaming buck is to think about when I get things cheaper. By the time I'm able to throw my hat into the next-gen ring, most of the games I'm looking forward to will be Greatest Hits or Players' Choices.
So, it basically comes down to: are there any games out there you want the console for NOW? If so, will they be cheaper in the future? If I'm willing to buy and play 10 great games for the same cost as 4 or 5 at full price, I'll wait for it... because while I'm waiting for the next games on my list to turn into best-sellers, I have all of my new purchases to enjoy. That's my two cents.

I personally never understood the "waiting until they have a decent lineup" remark. We know that some time or another, they will have a decent lineup so whats the purpose of waiting if they have games that you like now? What's the point in dropping $600+ on a ps3 right now, when: 1. There are no games for the system I'm remotely interested in playing 2. I don't have an HD TV to take advantage of the HD capabilities or BLU Ray movies 3. The longer I wait, the less money I'll have to pay 4. The longer I wait, the potential for system problems is less (things are changed / improved / bugs worked out each production run) It's like you're saying every person is interested in all the same games as you and has an unlimited budget to buy every system on its release date...

I wasn't speaking generally on the PS3. I'm talking about all consoles.
You all have mis-interpretted what I'm saying. If there are no games that you like...and your budget does not agree with the purchase...then who is to argue.
I'm arguing simply on the fact of "I'll buy it later when it has more games I like" Why wait if it already has games you like and other games you like are already slated for deveopment? We already know what games are being developed for the system for over 1 year away as it is now.
For example. We know Sosa will purchase a Wii. Without a doubt he has mentioned his interest in a few up and coming games on top of there already being 1 or 2 that he is interested in. Why not buy the Wii now if he has the money? Whats the point of waiting?
Me personally..I have a terrible time playing old games. Even 6 months old. Most of them just are not on par with current and other up and coming games. I missed the boat on a couple games unfortunetly like Resident Evil 4. Its a great game but I probably couldn't go back and play it today.

Super Mario Bros.? Castlevania? {Yes, Please} I love a lot of newer games-- don't get me wrong-- but sometimes I get a hankerin' that only The Adventures of Lolo or Shadowgate can satisfy. Even newer old games, like Castlevania: SotN and Einhander on PS1, or Super Smash Bros. on N64. ... ... /em runs to find all his old games and consoles.

hehe, yah jus ur personally i guess. old games never bothered me much. wether replaying them, or even jus playin them for teh first time. i personally have no probs waitin 6 months a year after release to get something i want. the nice thing with waitin around for awhile sometimes is you dont get caught up in teh hype an then disapointed because of over the games/movies being overhyped

i got my PS3 a bit ago, i'm happy with it as for the bugs very little of them are hardware most are software bugs which will be fixed in upcoming firmware releases. As for games i mostly play RPG's so my only system to chose for that path of games was the PS3. My brother has a Wii but I seriouly doubt the RPG titles will hit that console hard due to the controller layout, and Microsoft was never a big fan of RPGs as one can tell from the Xbox and the 360. So what i'm saying is, if your an RPGer like me then PS3 is your only real future console choice.
