I could go on a speil about this all day long but I'd rather keep it short and sweet.
Through my experience as a NIN I have taken the same approach as Locke has. Yes the elemental wheel could keep hate with the right setup of gear and pt members but does it really pay to keep all that extra gear on you? Ive found that keeping full pt gear, meaning attack + and WS gear on hand along with a full set of solo gear, all my evasion + and agi gear to suit me just fine. It allows me to roam the hillsides pretty much ready for the next pt invite, mission raid, NM, or w/e else may come to pass.
Though I have thought often wondered about how sweet it would have been to have capped throwing at 51. Go into a pt as NIN/RDM with ranged shiurkens, and staves and be the puller. It would be kind of like a wierd rng. Run out pull mob. Come back, spam the wheel, thoss to shurikens, take hate, laugh at the pld, and do it again!
I use mostly att + gear. I go with haste where I can because it doubles as a helper for shadows and attacking. Sosa mentioned something about taking fuma's away and wearing + evasion can correlate into helping you evade more therefore not needing the haste. This is true. But + evasion doesn't help with my attack speed. Yes 3% haste is not enough to really make a difference, but when you add in all of the +haste one gets at 75 it just makes me spooge in my pants to think of having more than my own haste spell on me just with gear.
So going with that I pretty much know what I'll be wearing at 75 for both tp gain and WS's. Only thing I've run into is earring and ring choices. I've been using STAT mod rings since day one, but now reading what locke says I wonder if I should change that. It makes sense and that assailents ring sounds sexy. But just so I know, if I have +9 Dex +5 Str on me from rings won't that up my crit hits? If I break the Senji, wear a fudo and cap out crit merits will I benefit more from a high dmg critical hit over an extra dmg point here and there? I guess it would depend on how often I critical.
Earrings: I use an evasion earring if I'm main tank, unless I have a bard. Then I toss in the minuet earring, otherwise minuet earring only gets used for WS. I'm using a Supp. but have nothing to swap in for WS. Should I even swap in? I dont know if Dual Wield does anything for WS. Then the Brutal earring? This will probably replace the evasion earring full time in pt situations, but is it worth anything on Jins? Jins are 3 attacks, no more? So one wants to spike DEX and STR up like a thf would before SATA.
I have also started using my Shura Togi in the Mire. The mobs there are weak ass bitches now and I can get away with the +20 Att and not miss the + evasion of the SH. Thing is, I don't notice a difference. The only time I ever notice a difference in my dmg is when I use all evasion gear on WS vs my WS gear I swap in. Even then I have hit pretty decent in all evasion gear. It's just more consistent with the swap.
My advice. Don't be afraid to try new things. Don't be afraid to adventure. Don't be afraid to die. Also, don't put to much thought into all this. If you can master the shadow casting you will be laughing in the face of mobs till 75.
